Heimweh

FLATZ’s installation “HEIMWEH” explores the inner state of mind of the individual in the age of globalisation.

The soil in which our mental, emotional and physical development takes root connects us to our homeland throughout our lives. We call the land in which our roots are anchored ‘home’. Whatever the reasons for leaving home, what remains are the memories of emotionally formative experiences from the past and a longing for comfort and security. Homesickness is a feeling that creeps in whilst we are far away, spreads and takes hold of us, like an illness for which there is no cure. The signs and symbols associated with this feeling are evoked in the installation “HEIMWEH” by FLATZ. “HEIMWEH” is about the romanticised longing for the scent of memories of one’s own roots.
