Erwin Wurm

From 11 June, Kunstraum Dornbirn will be presenting sculptures by Erwin Wurm. Under the title “Big”, we are showing a selection of works from the “Fat Sculptures” series, including the “Fat House” and the “Fat Mini”, which form the centrepiece of the exhibition. Also on display will be the sculpture “Butter”, a deformed fridge from the “Performative Sculptures” series, and objects from the “Weapons” series – two pistols from the firms Walther and Glock, which Erwin Wurm has artistically reimagined in his characteristic style. One of his well-known “One Minute Sculptures” will also be installed in a public space in Dornbirn.

 

His famously ironic approach to fashion items, everyday objects, food, cars and houses transforms the works into significant statements on our consumer behaviour, commented on in a humorous, subtle and at times sarcastic manner. Upside-down lorries, squashed or out-of-shape objects and houses, oversized gherkins – they all spring from Erwin Wurm’s world of ideas. Or his “One Minute Sculptures”, those mini-performances with surprisingly ironic instructions that are to be carried out for one minute or lead to acrobatic contortions.
